One week to go until Opening Day! Tuesday and Thursday's spring training games will be broadcast on the MSG network, while Saturday's game will be on WPIX - all three of these games will be on WFAN radio.
One For His Baby - Jeromy Burnitz stayed in California longer than expected because his newborn baby, Grace, had complications after her birth on March 12th in the form of fluid in her lungs and insufficient oxygen in her blood. New father Burnitz didn't leave his family until after his second daughter was on the mend and home from the hospital. But Burnitz didn't let this time off get in the way of preparing for the season - he homered in his first at bat when he returned last Tuesday.
Back Where He Belongs - Gary Carter was back in a Mets uniform last Tuesday, starting his second season as a roving catching instructor for the organization.
Michael's Song - Keep an ear out for Terry Cashman's latest song - "A Tattered Flag in the Breeze (Michael's Song)". It's a ballad about Mike Piazza's homer that sailed into the flag during the Mets' first game at Shea after September 11th. Copies of this song, as well as Terry Cashman's other baseball related recordings, can be ordered by clicking here. [Thanks to kcmets.com correspondent David G. Whitham for his help with this item.]
Meeting a Fellow Alum - Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Fiedler visited Mark Johnson last Tuesday. Both played quarterback for Dartmouth, where Fiedler broke Johnson's career passing records. The two never played on the same Green Wave football team and said it was the first time they'd ever met.
That's a Big Ten-Four! - Since 1999, coach Mookie Wilson has been moonlighting in the offseasons as a truck driver. His CB handle is "Professor."
